The ultimate club showdown

We would like to invite all clubs in the ACT (and anyone else keen) to play for the Beach Volleyball Club Championships at Lyneham on Saturday, 30 January 2027.

Team Composition Rules and Guidelines:

Each team can consist of 4, 5 or 6 players and there will be both men's and women's divisions. All game play components will require those players to play in a pair.

The overriding rule is that no player can take the court for their second set without all other members of their team playing their first set. No player can play their 3rd set without all members of the team playing 2 sets and so on throughout all pool play matches and finals right up until semi-finals. The same pairing cannot take the court twice in the same game.

The count resets for the semi-finals and will reset again for the final for the teams still participating.

4 Player Team:

During Set 1 & Set 2 the 4 players can take part in each set in any combination. If a 3rd set is required a different combination of players must take the court to who played in the previous 2 sets.
During pool play, when a 3rd set is required, the remaining two players must play the first set of the next match.

5 Player Team:

During Set 1 & Set 2 any 4 players can take part in each set in any combination. If a 3rd set is required the 5th player that has not taken the court yet must play.
During pool play, if no 3rd set is required, the 5th player must take the court in the 1st set of the following match. When a 3rd set is required, the player that plays twice cannot take the court again until all other players have also played two sets.

6 Player Team:

During Set 1 & Set 2 any 4 players can take part in each set in any combination. If a 3rd set is required the 2 players that have not yet taken the court must play the 3rd set. If no 3rd set is required the 2 players who have not yet taken the court, must commence the next match.

Tournament Format

The final format will depend on the number of entries. We will aim for a minimum of 3 pool matches with at least 2 teams progressing to the knockout stages.

Up to 16 teams per division - 2 teams from each local club that has confirmed entry. 2 teams per interstate club that nominates (up to 6 teams).

4 Pools of 4 teams - The winner of each Pool will be placed straight into quarter finals on the bracket. The second and third placed team from each pool will be placed into the bracket in the Round of 12. All second placed teams will play a third placed team. The team allocations into the bracket will only be partially seeded and completed in a way to maximise the chances of two separate clubs reaching the final. I.e. if multiple teams from the same club are still in the draw at the elimination stage, they will be placed into the same section of the bracket.
